HelderbergFM, an award-winning community radio station situated in Somerset West, has been the voice of the Helderberg since 1995, with unwavering commitment and heartfelt dedication to our community.

Listeners and advertisers are welcomed equally into the HelderbergFM family, recognising the intrinsic value each party brings to the other. Presenters and staff remain steadfast in spreading joy, music, inspiration and companionship through the airwaves, while informing and educating. Highlighting and recognising contributions by individuals and organisations within our community are the ingredients that contribute to the enrichment of our community and ultimately our station’s identity.

We also provide opportunities to grow the next generation of talented broadcasters, providing them with a platform to learn and grow in an industry that has remained resilient within an ever-changing media landscape.

Our broadcast area includes Somerset West, Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Sir Lowry’s Pass, Nomzamo, Lwandle, Firgrove and Macassar. However, our broadcast footprint extends to parts of the Cape Peninsula, southern and northern suburbs, Cape West Coast, Stellenbosch, Elgin, Grabouw, Villiersdorp, Hermanus and Gansbaai.

We broadcast in English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa, with broad appeal, guaranteeing good company around the clock. Our music has broad appeal with programmes that are entertaining, informative and educational.

From news, sport, weather and traffic to conversations with artists, celebrities, authors, achievers and people of interest. Features include Helderberg Cares (community organisations, charities, upliftment initiatives and fundraisers), food and wine, book reviews, community safety, medial matters, heath and fitness, travel, motoring news, finance and business.

Who is listening to us (Listener Survey – May 2023):

We strike a very big chord with anyone from 35 – 64, but there are 18 – 34 year olds who also tune in, particularly among female listeners.

Our diverse community is friendly and like to be kept informed. They are passionate about the Helderberg and take pride in supporting community campaigns and outreach projects.

Apart from spending time with family and socialising with friends, they also enjoy a variety of activities like reading, movies and series, travelling, sport, fitness, visiting restaurants and markets, and volunteering. Some even squeeze in a lucrative side hustle in their spare time.
